As a social worker, you inspire hope that things can be better and show the way through really dark times.

You are often focused on what you can do to help your client, battle a system and create change at the higher levels. I know this because I have been there in my own struggles with balancing care for myself as a professional as well as taking care of myself individually. I know this is hard to talk about too because we have been taught to keep those strong boundaries.

My name is Laurie Eldred and I am a social worker in Michigan.

I have been at the edges of burnout in my work through the child welfare system, prison system and mental health system.

In 2019, I needed a change and left a stressful job only to experience the downside of burn out; depression, despair yet awareness that things need to be better in order to not just survive but thrive in this profession and my life.

This space is just for you.
